A Location Intelligence System for the Assessment of Pluvial Flooding Risk and the Identification of Storm Water Pollutant Sources from Roads in Suburbanised Areas

Abstract: The interplay of an ever-growing number of inhabitants, sprawl development, soil sealing, changes in urban traffic characteristics, as well as observed climate trends gives rise to more frequent pluvial flooding in cities, a higher runoff of water, and an increasing pollution of surface water. The aim of this research is to develop a location intelligence system for the assessment of pluvial flooding risks and the identification of storm water pollutant sources from roads in newly-developed areas. The system c… Show more

“…These methods can also be used to determine the parameters of their own catchments (direct catchments of the pit) that are necessary for hydrological calculations. LiDAR data, digital terrain model (DTM) data, or digital elevation model (DEM) data, as well as aerial photographs (orthophotomaps), may also be used, among others, in predicting the retention capacity of reservoirs and polders [23,82], in constructing decision support systems for the purposes of stormwater management [83][84][85], or to model the risk of occurrence and range of floods [86][87][88].…”

“…Consequently, this will lead to exacerbated competition among water users and sectors [6].One of the main challenges for sustainable development is the adaptation of national economies to climate change. Most often, climate change adaptation projects in Poland are carried out in cities and areas subject to urban sprawl [7][8][9]. Agriculture is a key sector for food supply, and its functioning depends largely on access to water.…”

“…Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) is the third largest crop in the world, after rice and wheat, in terms of production volume, with tuber production exceeding 330 million tonnes [1,2]. Over the last 20 years, despite a decrease in the area under potato cultivation in Europe, the crop share allocated for consumption purposes has only slightly decreased [1,3,4]. Extensive use of potato in human nutrition and starch production distinguishes it from other crop plants.…”
