As the demand for sustainable and environmentally conscious practices continues to grow, recycled plastics have become increasingly popular for plastics manufacturers. However, reprocessing these materials can result in inconsistencies in both process and product quality, leading to a loss in mechanical properties. To address this issue, this work investigates the injection molding of recycled and virgin polypropylene (PP). Using a multi‐cavity hot runner mold, correlations between processing parameters, such as melt temperature, mold temperature, pack pressure, soak time, and mechanical properties, were systematically investigated. A multivariate analysis approach was used to model the variables for each material. Results indicated significant correlations between processing, mechanical properties, and morphology. In particular, for the PP, the melt temperature affected the formation of β‐crystals and their transition to α‐crystals upon tensile testing. Different morphology was observed for the recycled polypropylene (rPP), in which crystallization was affected by polyethylene (PE) contamination. The results discuss the injection molding polymer, structure, and properties, relationship providing an approach to understanding and optimizing the mechanical properties of rPP.Highlights Polyethylene contamination in polypropylene significantly influences crystallinity. Recycling contamination reduces the polypropylene's ability to form β crystals. Virgin polypropylene mechanical properties can be tailored through processing conditions. Recycled polypropylene mechanical properties suffer at higher temperatures and residence times. Polypropylene α/β morphologies can be visualized after mechanical testing.

Purpose: This study aims to analyse the causes of partial set-up work that is not optimal and provide solutions to the sub-optimal set-up work on family-type moulds in type A. Methodology/Approach: This study uses an 8-Step improvement approach combined with several methods, including Focus Group Discussion (FGD), Quality Cost Delivery Safety Moral (QCDSM), and Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Timebase (SMART) method. Findings: This study found the cause of the partial set-up work being less than optimal due to problems with the Man, Method, and Machine factors. The results of this study show that the set-up time decreased from 240 minutes to 73.4 minutes or 68%. Meanwhile, the process cost for the partial set-up itself decreased from $75 to $3 or decreased by 97%. Research Limitation/implication: This research has limitations in the partial set-up process, which is less than optimal in plastic injection family-type moulds in the Motorcycle Industry. Originality/Value of paper: This research has value in optimising the production of plastic injection family-type moulds by reducing set-up time and operational costs for making spare parts in the Motorcycle Industry

Injection molding is a process of making products or components from thermoplastic materials that requires careful control. There are several parameters that affect the quality of the finished product, including injection time and backpressure. This study aims to determine the effect of injection time and backpressure on product defects of water reservoir from GPPS material using Haitian 470 Ton machine. In this study, injection time parameters were tested with times of 3.5, 4 and 4.5 seconds and backpressure of 8 kgf/cm² and 10 kgf/cm². 15 samples were collected for each parameter variation during the tests. n the first test with a backpressure of 8 kgf/cm² with an injection time of 3.5-4.5 seconds no product defects were found. However, in the second test with a backpressure of 10 kgf/cm² with injection times of 4 and 4.5 seconds, visual blackdot defects appeared.
