“…Other archaeological research on the island of Timor has documented hand paintings at a number of locations, including Lena Hara and Ili Kére Kére (de Almeida 1967), Lie Siri (Glover 1972), Hatu Wakik (Forestier andGuillaud 2013), andKupang (O'Connor et al 2015). In the case of Ili Kére Kére, schematic figures linked to Holocene graphic traditions suggested a Holocene chronology.…”

“…While the stencils were considered alongside the Holocene motifs by O'Connor and colleagues (2015), it is noted that the two are separated by a few hundred meters and show different states of preservation, so they were clearly differentiated in time. At Hatu Wakik, excavations have demonstrated human occupation during the Middle Holocene (Forestier and Guillaud 2013), which could relate to the painted rock art at the site. However, none of these instances show direct links between the dating evidence and the hand stencils themselves.…”

“…Six sites were discovered by de Almeida [157] and Glover [158] and additional ones have been discovered in the last decade [159,163,164]. In inter-site and inter-regional contexts, the rock art depicts several distinct motifs such as the flying fox, anthropomorphs, geometric designs and boats, which show strong affinities to rock art further east in the Maccluer Gulf and the Kei islands in Indonesia.…”
