Industry has a key role in leading the digital and green transitions for the economic and societal transformations that we are experiencing. The approach towards a sustainable, human-centric, and resilient European industry, socalled Industry 5.0, complements the existing "Industry 4.0" approach by focusing on a circular, human-oriented, and durable industry. Thus, industrial systems need to have a focus shift from technology to human so that technology will serve human and not vice versa. In this way, human play a central role between technology and organizations. This paper seeks the challenge of this focus shift and how lean thinking and practicing soft lean tools such as Toyota Kata may contribute to the development of a human-centric approach in the industry. A literature review was conducted to answer these questions, and a conceptual modified Toyota Kata methodology, the so-called Human-centric Kata, was suggested to assist industry in reaching its goals towards a human-centric green-digital era.

Lean manufacturing has experienced massive changes under the influence of Industry 4.0, with the automation of lean practices becoming common among manufacturing companies in many countries and different industries. Automating lean practices promises a number of opportunities for growth and competitiveness. One of the key advantages of lean automation has been acknowledged to be the significant reduction of waste. Meanwhile, there is also discussion of a new form of waste: digital waste. However, do companies consider digital waste a part of production waste? It is also unclear if automation of lean practices is a trigger for digital waste with a negative impact on value creation. This paper aims to investigate companies with automated lean practices and the particular case of digital waste in automated processes. The research is based on case studies of manufacturing based in Sweden.

Despite the acclaimed potential of industry 4.0 for efficiency and growth, statistics show that the majority of firms' digital transformation programs fail to meet their objectives. We provide a plausible explanation of this understudied phenomenon through theoretical discussions on the four overlooked paradoxical characteristics found between digitalization activities. Further, using the lens of lean and dynamic capabilities theory, we propose strategies for firms to transcend the paradoxes and in turn, realize their expectations of the transformation initiatives.
