Abstract-Laboratory is a key element of engineering and applied sciences educational systems. With the development of Internet and connecting IT technologies, the appearance of remote laboratories was inevitable. Virtual laboratories are also available; they place the experiment in a simulated environment. However, this writing focuses on remote experiments not virtual ones. From the students' point of view, it is a great help not only for those enrolling in distant or online courses but also for those studying in a more traditional way. With the spread of smart, portable devices capable of connection to the internet, students can expand or restructure time spent on studying. This is a huge help to them and also allows them to individually divide their time up, to learn how to self-study. This independent approach can prepare them for working environments. It offers flexibility and convenience to the students. From the universities' point of view, it helps reduce maintenance costs and universities can share experiments which also helps the not so well-resourced educational facilities.

Abstract-As Internet speed grows up and academic networks reach more users, engineering schools take interest in online laboratories as a mean to increase the spectrum of offered services and to reduce costs by sharing expensive lab equipments. In this perspective, online labs must comply both with the scientific and pedagogic requirements coming from the lab users (students, researchers, …) and with the requirements coming from the administrative and technical staff in charge to manage and deliver the lab services. In this paper we describe a system architecture based on both the classes of requirements and discuss the main results achieved implementing a prototype of the proposed architecture in a real academic scenario.

The paper presents the E-learning project and the work until now done to extend the features of the Italian Remote Laboratory "G.Savastano" to the academic circles of East Europe, Western Balkan and Mediterranean area. In particular, in the framework of the project "Italian-Croatian Remote Laboratory Distributed on Geographic Network", the ItalianCroatian collaboration is highlighted. The proposed approach follows EU efforts to implement internal Lifelong Learning Program and influence educational systems of EU partner and neighbor Countries while helping them to overcome problems with their own educational systems and lack of resources. Developed experiments give the possibility of achieving practical experience on several fields, while multilingual approach gives the access to such facility to the students coming from different Countries. Moreover, the idea of interactively controlled transfer of knowledge and experience offers a new dimension to the remote experiments enabling them to be executed without supervising necessity.
