A Landscape Complex Values Map: Integration among Soft Values and Hard Values in a Spatial Decision Support System

Abstract: The paper develops a Spatial Decision Support System (SDSS) for the identification and evaluation of the landscape complexity for the Massa Lubrense territory, in the South of Italy. Through the elaboration of a selection of spatial indicators and the combination of GIS and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, it has been defined a decision-making process for the construction of a map of complex values, soft and hard values, that characterize the landscape of Massa Lubrense. “…This would have significant impacts not only at a local scale, which was the scope of this research, but also on regional-scale plans and programmes. This research also offered an example of how GIS techniques and methodologies can be used to support land-use planning and decision making in urban growth management (Cerreta and De Toro, 2010;Cerreta and Mele, 2012), by providing helpful tools to spatially analyse and study landscape patterns, spatial variations and their most significant correlations.…”

“…In this context, economic, social, environmental, cultural, symbolic, quantitative and qualitative, short-and medium-long-term perspective impacts are to be assessed and compared to deduce priorities for actions [39][40][41]. In addition, new approaches and tools to improve the assessment of the use value of rare and unique landscape resources are required, according to the complex social value perspective [15,18,[42][43][44][45], to assess the change and its attractiveness capacity.…”
