Considering the characteristics compound operations in tier-to-tier multi-shuttle system, the different sequence of warehouse tasks will lead to different working paths of the shuttles and the lifts, which will affect the operating time and energy consumption of the system. In order to reduce the operation time and energy consumption of the tier-to-tier multi-shuttle system, the dual-objective model with the shuttle operation time and energy consumption is established according to the system process compound operations scenario. According to the characteristics of the model, a hybrid particle swarm optimization-genetic simulated annealing two-level algorithm, is put forward. Then, the numerical example is calculated to verify the validity of the model and the algorithms. The experimental results show that the dual-objective model can reduce energy consumption and shuttle travel time better than the single time objective model, and can reduce time and improve work efficiency more effectively than the single energy consumption objective model.

Economic growth based on economic sharing encourages e-commerce transactions to increase. Along with this, the need for an effective distribution process is also increasing, in order to fulfill orders quickly and accurately. This study was conducted on the logistics department at one of the retail companies providing electronic equipments and accessories. Preliminary observations indicate the high level of overtime experienced by employees in the logistics department, as well as the high rate of errors in delivery of ordered products, which results in high complaints from customers. The aim of the study is to evaluate the performance of the order picking process that is currently being carried out by the company, and to formulate a suitable approach to be applied by the company. The research was conducted with a discrete simulation approach, using Flexsim v2022. Modeling begins with creating entities according to the actual warehouse specifications. After that, the model is developed by determining the process flow or simulation flow, by entering parameters such as the number of orders, time, and shelf location. The simulation results show that the current wave picking approach is not optimal. The simulation shows that the sequential zone picking strategy is estimated to result in a decrease in the time of order pickings and the distance experienced by the officers, so that it can be a strategy that can reduce the rate of overtime and errors in order pickings.

The four-way-shuttle-based storage and retrieval system is a recent innovative intelligent vertical warehousing system that has been widely applied in manufacturing and e-commerce environments due to its high flexibility and density. As a complex multi-device cooperative operational system, this system features the parallel operation of multiple elevators and four-way shuttles. During large-scale-batch inbound operations, the quality of scheduling solutions for inbound-operation equipment significantly impacts the system’s efficiency and performance. In this paper, a detailed analysis of the inbound-operation process in the system is conducted, taking into consideration the motion characteristics of both the elevators and four-way shuttles. Furthermore, we establish operational time constraints that account for equipment acceleration and deceleration characteristics and introduce a flexible flow-shop-scheduling model to address the scheduling problem in the system. Additionally, we propose an improved genetic algorithm based on double-layer encoding to solve this problem. Comparative experiments with a traditional genetic algorithm and ant-colony algorithm demonstrate the superior efficiency and accuracy of our approach. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is validated through comparisons with large-scale practical experiments.
