Abstract:Extein amino acid residues around the splice site junctions affect the functionality of inteins. To identify an optimal sequence context for efficient protein splicing of an intein from the thermoacidophilic archaeon Picrophilus torridus, single extein amino acid residues at the splice site junctions were continuously deleted. The construction of a set of different truncated extein variants showed that this intein tolerates multiple amino acid variations near the excision sites and exhibits full activity when … Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
