“…We devised HET to make space for manipulation by taping and pulling up the strap muscles. This provides sufficient room for the lateral side of the thyroid lobe and makes it easier to find the recurrent laryngeal nerve, the parathyroid, or both in addition to the merit of lighting [30]. Because the magnification and brightening of HET allows constant sharing of precise anatomic information concerning the recurrent nerve by both the operator and the assistant, the nerve can be treated more carefully.…”

“…In 1992, VATS pulmonary lobectomy was first reported by Lewis 13 . Currently there are two commonly used approaches of mini‐invasive surgery for these patients, identified by: (i) unstretched incision, where VATS is performed purely with a thoracoscope; 14,15 and (ii) stretched incision, where hybrid VATS is performed under the guidance of thoracoscope‐assisted observation and macroscopic vision 6,10 . Each of the approaches has its own advantages and disadvantages and should be selected depending on the expertise of surgeons, and balanced with safety, benefits and medical costs.…”

“…[3][4][5] Practically, mini-invasive thoracic surgery involves visionguided, foot-and-hand-coordinated manipulation of target tissues or organs using devices through small incisions, which may be hand-assisted when necessary. 6,7 Today, mini-invasive thoracic surgery for lung cancer includes three approachesvideo assisted thoracic surgery (VATS), video-assisted hybrid VATS and hand-assisted VATS -and is technically performed with slender instruments for resection or reconstruction deep inside the thoracic cavity under the navigation by stereoscopic images of direct vision and 2-D images from the thoracoscope. 6 Over the past decade, techniques in mini-invasive thoracic surgery have been developing rapidly and increasingly acceptable to the community.…”
