A Hybrid Fuzzy TOPSIS – Best Worst Method for Risk Prioritization in Megaprojects

Abstract: Megaprojects are usually complex and in many cases encounter failure in terms of finish late or overspent. This study aims to investigate the critical risk factors behind these projects as well as their priority. Project risk management is a mature research stream. But when focus on megaprojects the amount of research decreases significantly. This research provides a hierarchy of risk structure in Tehran-Rasht railway megaproject and prioritizes the risk factors through a two-phase methodology. This method is … Show more

“…To verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method, a comparative analysis is conducted between the proposed method and three existing methods: the BWM-TODIM method [ 14 , 50 ], the BWM and multi-granularity interval 2-tuple linguistic TODIM [ 24 ], and the fuzzy BWM and fuzzy TOPSIS [ 44 ]. For concision, above three methods are denoted as Method-I, Method-II and Method-III, respectively.…”

“…In many studies, it is frequently integrated with FMEA [35][36][37][38][39][40]. In some other studies, it is integrated with MCDM such as interval triangular fuzzy Delphi method under 5 × 5 matrix [41], F-TOPSIS [42], and artificial intelligence-based methods such as Bayesian networks [43,44] and business impact analysis [45].…”

“…Awarding tenders group was identified as the first group affecting delay. Using a hybrid fuzzy TOPSIS [1] -BWM, Norouzi and Ghayur-Namin (2019) investigated and prioritized causes of delay in a railway megaproject in Iran. Inability to meet the project required standards, inappropriate planning and scheduling and defective design were identified as the ones with the highest priority.…”
