The majority of Junior Secondary School (JSS 3) students find it extremely challenging to select the most appropriate subject area for Senior Secondary School 1(SSS 1) due to diverse conflicting decision criteria such as friends and parents' influence in the decision-making process. The decision problem is extremely important for the students and the society at large because making the wrong choice may negatively affect the students' academic performance at the senior secondary school level and the tertiary school level. To assist students in making the appropriate choice for their future career development a decision support system based on the VIKOR method is presented. The technique has substantial mathematical calculation and to make the use of the tool simple it was implemented in PHP programming language. The decision support system software was tested with an example of a JSS 3 student transiting to SSS1 subject area selection problem. Three alternative subject areas: science, social science, and art are considered. The performance of the three subject areas was evaluated with respect to five decision criteria: student academic performance, parents influence, student interest, career prospect, and friends/peers' influence. The result of the analysis showed that science is the best subject area for the student. The developed software is flexible as it can solve multicriteria decision problem with numerous alternatives and decision criteria. The decision support system software was further validated by using it to analyse a decision problem in the literature previously solved with a TOPSIS based license software. The analysis showed that the decision support system software produces the same result as the TOPSIS based license software.

Background: Analysis and review of dissertations over a period of time is one of the methods of viewing documents so that by formulating newer topics, a platform will develop for scientific advancement in the fields related to various academic majors. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to review master's dissertations of medical education graduates in the virtual school of medical education and management of shahid Beheshti University of Medical Science in the years 2011 to 2016. Methods: In this study, 144 master's dissertations of medical education students graduated in 2011 - 2016 from the virtual school of medical education and management of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Science were evaluated. Using an information checklist, relevant data were extracted from the dissertations. The topics of these dissertations were categorized into nine general categories. Also, we also reviewed the journals in which the articles extracted from the dissertations were published. Results: Overall, 74 MSc. dissertations in medical education (2011 to 2016) in the Virtual Faculty of Medical Education and Management of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences were evaluated, and the relevant journals in which the extracted articles were published were also reviewed. Conclusions: The results of this study showed that the tendency of students for conducting descriptive studies and using questionnaires was significantly higher, ignoring other research methods. This issue needs to be evaluated, and authorities should determine relevant causes to help planning and to create more diversity in the types of studies in this field. Also, due to the non-allocation of dissertations to some subject areas, such as reviewing and analyzing processes, there is a need to prioritize this topic when selecting future dissertations’ subjects and appropriately direct students to achieve the desired situation.

The selection of the appropriate combination of materials for a manufacturing company is one of the important points to achieving high competitiveness in the market. Besides, an appropriate choice of materials is very important as it helps to reach optimum production rate and efficiency. Today's market offers many more choices for materials alternatives. There are also many factors one should consider as part of the appropriate combination of materials selection process, including productivity, wastage, cost, style, etc., consequently, evaluation procedures involve several objectives and it is often necessary to compromise among possibly conflicting tangible and intangible factors. For dealing with these problems, multiple criteria decision making (MCDM) has been found to be a useful approach to solve this kind of problem. Most of the MCDM models are basically mathematical and disregard qualitative and subjective considerations. The application of fuzzy set theory allows incorporating the vague and imprecise linguistic terms and qualitative information into the decision process. This paper devises a fuzzy hybrid analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) approach to the problem of thesis subject selection. Fuzzy AHP is used to formulate and calculate the weight of each criterion, and fuzzy TOPSIS is proposed to prioritize combination material alternatives from the best to the worst ones. A case study on Kaach Company was put forward to illustrate the performance of the proposed methodology.
