A hybrid bacterial foraging and differential evolution algorithm for congestion management

Abstract: SUMMARYThis work presents the application of hybrid bacterial foraging algorithm to solve congestion management problem in restructured power systems. The open access market environment makes the power system operation as more complicated one. The more emerging problem in the recent research is congestion management problem which requires to be analyzed to supply power to the consumers in most reliable manner. In this paper, we have tried to remove the congestion in the transmission line by generation reschedu… Show more

“…When we try to optimize several objectives at the same time, the search space also becomes partially ordered. To obtain the optimal solution, there will be a set of optimal trade-offs between the conflicting objectives [12,13]. However, multiobjective programming encounters difficulties in dealing with both qualitative and quantitative objectives in a decision problem.…”

“…The influences of thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC) and static var compensator (SVC) on transmission pricing at the competitive markets are reported in [12]. To manage the congestions in the congested critical state, re-dispatching the optimal power to alleviate the congestions from the transmissions line is presented at [13][14][15]. In the literatures [16][17][18] generator sensitivity based approaches are applied to re-dispatch the optimal active power to eliminate the congestion in the transmission line.…”

“…Recently, bacterial foraging (BF) algorithm has been proposed and employed to solve many optimization problems [27][28][29][30]. The BF algorithm is based on social and cooperative behaviors found in nature.…”
