A human visual system-based 3D video quality metric

Abstract: Although several 2D quality metrics have been proposed for images and videos, in the case of 3D efforts are only at the initial stages. In this paper, we propose a new full-reference quality metric for 3D content. Our method is modeled around the HVS, fusing the information of both left and right channels, considering color components, the cyclopean views of the two videos and disparity. Performance evaluations showed that our 3D quality metric successfully monitors the degradation of quality caused by several… Show more

“…That being said, compared to other kinds of immersive video technologies mentioned earlier, there are more 3D databases (mainly stereo video) available [2][3]25]. Consequently, research in areas of 3D video compression [26][27][28]1,4,[35][36], quality assessment [31][32][33][5][6][7][8], and 3D visual attention modeling [34,[9][10] is very active.…”

“…8. Rate-Distortion curves: PSNR at different bitrates for various frame rates, in four different levels of motion: a) High motion, b) Medium motion, c) Low motion, and d) Very low motion accepted that it does not show high correlation with the perceptual quality of 3D content [36][37][38][39][40]. For instance, as it is observed from Fig.…”
