Aim: In this study we aimed to evaluate the pattern of eye diseases (PED) in people attending a government hospital in Arar city of Saudi Arabia. Material and Method: This study was carried out on 1238 people visiting the eye out patient department (OPD) of Arar Central Hospital. Anterior and posterior segment eye examination was done to diagnose the eye diseases and treat them accordingly. Results: A total of 620 (50.1%) males and 618 (49.9%) females were enrolled in the current study whose ages ranged from 6 months to 72 years (39.8±2.9 years). Majority of the patients (95.3%) were Saudi nationals. In this study conjunctivitis was found to be the most common eye disease in 392 (31.7%) cases followed by refractive error, cataract, diabetic retinopathy and strabismus in 259 (20.9%), 183 (14.8%), 99 (8%) and 38 (3.1%) cases respectively. Discussion: The results of this study indicate that men and women are equally interested to seek medical advice for their eye diseases. Strategies should target to reduce the burden of refractive errors, cataract and diabetic retinopathy. Availability of posterior segment subspecialists and pediatric ophthalmologists in the hospital are important for better outcomes of cases with diabetic retinopathy and strabismus.

Objective: To evaluate the success rate of endoscopic endonasal Dacryocystorhinostomy Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted at Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology Department of Shifa Foundation Community Health Centre, Islamabad, Pakistan, from Oct 2017 to Sep 2019. The patients with chronic dacryocystitis who underwent endoscopic endonasal Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) were enrolled. Data for demographic information and clinical features (mucocele, deviated nasal septum, epiphora, purulent discharge and regurgitation test, history of acute dacryocystitis and probing and syringing etc.) was noted. Endoscopic DCR with or without lacrimal intubation was performed under general anesthesia. Patients were reviewed at post-operative week1, 1 month, 6 months and 12 months with documentation of epiphora, purulent discharge, need for syringing, nasal adhesions etc. Telephonic interviews were done in cases of missing data. Statistical analysis was done with SPSS 20.0. Results: The study enrolled 47 patients, majority of them were females (87.2%). The mean age of patients was 40.70 ± SD 10.84 yrs, Range 25-66 yrs.. Minimum postoperative follow up period was 12 months; mean duration (14.53 ± 3.0 months). Lacrimal intubation was performed in 31 (66%) patients. Nasal endoscopy was performed and lacrimal tubes were removed after 6 months post operatively. Surgical success was achieved in 46 (97.9%) patients: 37 (78.7 %) patients were completely symptom free, 9 (19.1%) were partially symptomatic and were managed conservatively. The visual system is the portion of the central nervous system through which human organism is able to see. Eye is very sensitive organ of our system so the care is very important. The task of the visual system is a big one. This system must have an almost innumerable amount of available information and extract only the useful information. Most important special sense in human being is the vision. For normal physical, mental, psychological development and education, vision should be normal. The aim of this review is to evaluate the ocular morbidity in the population of Uttarakhand. This study is a literature review of published studies from 2013 to 2017, held in the different journal and article and websites. Refractive error was the commonest ocular morbidity followed by disorders of conjunctiva, congenital malformations of eye, disorders of eyelid, lacrimal system and orbit, injury of eye and orbit, superficial injury of eye, disorders of sclera, cornea, iris and ciliary body, disorders of choroid and retina and presence of functional implant. Most common complaint among children was watering of the eye followed by discharge from eyes, redness of eye and headache, diminished vision, itching and inability to see clearly in dim light. Prevalence of ocular morbidity was significantly associated with age.Commonest causes of injury were contact lens wear, road traffic accidents, sports playing & recreational activities and occupational. Delay in presentation was associated with complications.Stable intervention programs targeting refractive errors, allergic conjunctivitis, infections of lid and adnexa and trauma are used to decrease the burden of ocular morbidity.
