A Hopfield Neural Network Approach to the Dual Response Problem

Abstract: The application of neural networks to optimization problems has been an active research area since the early 1980s. Unconstrained optimization, constrained optimization and combinatorial optimization problems have been solved using neural networks. This study presents a new approach using Hopfield neural networks (HNNs) for solving the dual response system (DRS) problems. The major aim of the proposed method is to produce a string of solutions, rather than a 'one-shot' optimum solution, to make the trade-offs … Show more

“…Selection of a suitable solution methodology for a certain multi-objective optimization problem is not easy, as has been made abundantly clear [16]. In this study, the fuzzy linguistic weight-based method is proposed by improving Werner's "fuzzy and" operator method [17].…”

“…Nevertheless, search algorithms like genetic and hybrid algorithms have been proposed and illustrated in the RSM literature . Hopfield Neural Networks and Simulated Annealing have also been used as alternatives to the popular Generalized Reduced Gradient and Sequential Quadratic Programming algorithms. For a review on the state of the art, special features, and trends on the development of search algorithms the reader is referred to Younis and Dong, Zhou et al , Talbi et al , and Sörensen .…”

“…Box and Draper presented an experiment involving printing ink, which was previously analyzed by Vining and Myers, Del Castillo and Montgomery, Lin and Tu, Copeland and Nelson, Vining and Bohn, Koksoy and Yalcinoz, and Shaibu and Cho . The purpose of the experiment was to study the effect of speed, x 1 , pressure, x 2 , and distance, x 3 , on a printing machine's ability to apply coloring inks on package labels.…”
