A Holistic Decision Support Tool for Facade Design

Abstract: This paper presents a holistic decision support tool developed for use during the early stages of facade design. The tool is based on the interdependent relationships between facade performance, facade parameters, and conditions (environmental and spatial). It assumes that a decision maker has the ability to enhance the performance of a facade by making proper decisions on the design parameters in line with the conditions. However, since facade performance has various aspects (sometimes conflicting) to be cons… Show more

“…Several papers mentioned that the portion of the radiation of OTTV is larger than its percentage of conduction [24,25]. If the simulation data is following [24,25], then a simplification of the OTTV formula can be proposed using only the radiation portion. The calculation method of SC eff in SNI 6389:2011 involves observations of several tables and some interpolations.…”

“…In the OTTV formula, the variable WWR always exists on the three main components. Several researchers considered solar heat gain in the form of radiation as the largest part of OTTV [23][24][25]. The formula of solar heat gain is,…”

“…Moreover, subjectivity introduces another layer of uncertainty within decision making more acutely for complex and dynamic contexts. In Kültür, Türkeri [1], for example, a sensitivity analysis was used to assess the degree of changes to the orientation to the overall design and performance by individually changing a parameter while keeping the others constant; similar to the approach employed by Rapp, Chinnam [99]. Eleftheriadis, Duffour [13] and Avigad and Moshaiov [100] have separately demonstrated the use of sensitivity analyses in statistical decision techniques such in Evidential Reasoning algorithms and Pareto Analysis, respectively.…”

“…This often requires interaction between the various stakeholders, collaboratively in the project processes, activities and tasks in order to deliver the expected outcomes. A lot of the key decision making including management of project requirements, however, is noted to be set in the early project stages [1,2]. Capturing and defining these adequately is key to ensuring the realisation of project benefits.…”
