A Highly syn-Selective Allylation of Aldehydes in Water

Abstract: nBu4NBr/PbI2 acts as an effective catalyst for the allylation of aldehydes 2 with the allylic tin reagents 1 in water. A high syn‐selectivity of 3 was achieved in water without any aprotic solvents in the reaction of the aromatic aldehydes 2 with the crotyltri‐n‐butyltin reagents 1b, 1c irrespective of their E/Z geometry.

“…Compounds 1 and 3 are less active than the organic hybrid iodoplumbates {(tbp) 2 [Pb 3 I 12 ]} n (tbp = 1,3,5‐tri(N‐pyridiniummethyl)benzene tribromide) and {(tbpm)[Pb 3 I 9 ] · H 2 O} n (tbpm = 1,3,5‐tri(4‐methylpyridiniummethyl)benzene tribromide) in the photodegradation of MB, but compounds 4 and 5 are more effective than the organic hybrid iodoplumbates in the same photodegradation of MB. [5b] Comparing the crystal structures of compounds 3 and 4 , they contain similar 1‐D iodoplumbate polymers. The discrepancies of the catalytic efficiencies between 3 and 4 might be attributed to the different structures of their Ni II complex cations.…”
