A highly luminescent and highly oxygen-sensitive Tb(iii) complex with a tris-aryloxide functionalised 1,4,7-triazacyclononane ligand

Abstract: This communication presents a new terbium(III) complex that shows the highest luminescence quantum yield among the oxygen-sensitive lanthanide complexes (Φ = 0.91 under N2, Φ = 0.054 under air).

“…Recently, a series of strong luminescent lanthanide complexes derived from the 1,4,7,10‐teraazacyclododecane‐ or 1,4,7‐triazacyclononane‐based tetrakis‐phenol ligands have been reported . Therefore, the reaction of lanthanide ions and cyclolamidophenol ligands is a new synthetic strategy toward the preparation of magneto‐luminescent complexes.…”

“…This was achieved by using a mixture of 1 and its europium analog in aqueous media, through the ratio of the Eu (603-610 nm) to Tb emissions (515-525 nm). Other monometallic complexes operating in a similar way were reported, and were mostly developed on DOTA platforms [102][103][104][105][106][107][108][109][110].…”
