A highly efficient and thermally stable broadband Cr3+-activated double borate phosphor for near-infrared light-emitting diodes

Abstract: GdAl3(BO3)4:Cr3+ is used to fabricate a NIR-pc-LED that shows promise for plant lighting and applications in the nondestructive analysis of agricultural products.

“…ForN IR spectroscopic applications,a ni deal light source should exhibit ab road spectrum to cover more information on the functional groups. [19] Efficient emission intensity in the detection range is also required, which guarantees less noise and interference for higher detection sensitivity.H ere,e thyl alcohol and water are selected to demonstrate the potential of LIZSO:Cr 3+ in NIR spectroscopic applications.Asdisplayed in Figure 5a,t he transmission spectra measured by the UV-Vis-NIR spectrometer show characteristic absorption bands of ethyl alcohol at 908 and 1015 nm, and water at 975 nm. Figure 5b and S15 present the PL spectra of the LIZSO:Cr 3+ (y = 0, 0.30, and 0.60) phosphors after penetrating nothing, ethyl alcohol, and water.…”

“…The peak position of the 4 T 2g – 4 A 2g transition redshifts from 753 to 764 nm (shift energy ≈174 cm −1 ), which could be mainly resulted from the weakened crystal field caused by the lattice expansion when the sample is heated from RT to 473 K (Figure 3b). [ 14,15,29,30 ] Correspondingly, the FWHM extends from 124 to 140 nm due to the strengthened EPC. [ 15,29,30 ] For the thermal stability of CLMSG:5%Cr 3+ (Figure 3c), the IQE manifests an unanimous thermal quenching due to the nonradiative relaxation of the 4 T 2g state.…”

“…For NIR spectroscopic applications, an ideal light source should exhibit a broad spectrum to cover more information on the functional groups [19] . Efficient emission intensity in the detection range is also required, which guarantees less noise and interference for higher detection sensitivity.…”
