“…Depending on the detector and the environment, measurements of dE/dx can be affected by a large variety of sizable systematic effects, including aging, and thus development of a dE/dx calibration technique that can reliably predict the dE/dx mean value and resolution for a particle of a given type anywhere in the detector can be a great challenge, particularly when one wishes to exploit for PID the dE/dx ''relativistic rise'' in a gaseous tracking system. Examples of dE/dx use in PID include the drift chambers in BaBar [207,234], Belle [235], BESII [211], CDF [236], CLEO-II [203], CLEO-III and CLEO-c [205], and KLOE [237]. In BaBar and Belle, dE/dx K /π separation at low momenta is very important to B flavor tagging, and in CDF the dE/dx ''relativistic rise'' is critically important to the study of B 0 , B s ,…”

“…In order to reduce the amount of material along the positron trajectory, the helium-based gas mixture He:C 2 H 6 = 50:50 is adopted as a counting gas [20,21]. For this mixture the disadvantages of small primary ionisation and large diffusion of helium is balanced by the high primary ionisation, good quenching properties and high voltage (HV) stability of ethane.…”

“…The parameterization of the X-T relation is the first step in the calibration procedure. In the Belle experiment, the X-T relation of the Central Drift Chamber (CDC) is fitted with up to fifth-order polynomials [6]; the KLOE drift chamber uses up to fifth-order Chebychev polynomials [7]. Since the BESIII chamber has a similar cell geometry to that of the Belle CDC, we tried to use the same fitting function.…”
