A high precision semi-analytic mass function

Abstract: In this paper, extending past works of Del Popolo, we show how a high precision mass function (MF) can be obtained using the excursion set approach and an improved barrier taking implicitly into account a non-zero cosmological constant, the angular momentum acquired by tidal interaction of proto-structures and dynamical friction. In the case of the ΛCDM paradigm, we find that our MF is in agreement at the 3% level to Klypin's Bolshoi simulation, in the mass range M vir = 5 × 10 9 h −1 M -5 × 10 14 h −1 M and r… Show more

“…More precise predictions are actively being sought (e.g. Pace et al 2014;Pace, Batista & Del Popolo Rei;Del Popolo et al 2017). Eventually we will converge towards an ultimate physical model for the halo mass function.…”

“…Hopefully such an exercise will be repeated with current and future simulations to reach a better empirical halo definition. About the theoretical halo definition, it seems recent investigations on the extended spherical collapse models by Del Popolo et al (2017) point towards a modification of the Sheth & Tormen (1999) along the lines of the modifications made by Bhattacharya et al (2011). So there might be a physical reason behind the fact that the Bhattacharya et al (2011) is a better description of the data than Sheth & Tormen (1999).…”

“…The quoted problems are interconnected, and a unified solution can be obtained taking into account the role of baryons in the central parts of haloes Del Popolo and Le Delliou 2014). …”

“…Unified baryonic solutions to the quoted problems, and others mentioned above have been proposed. They are based on the action of baryons located in the inner parts of the haloes (Zolotov et al 2012;Del Popolo 2014a, 2014b. Hence it is clear from the present work that a constant density core of the halos of dwarf galaxies are strongly preferred but the nature of this DM halo still remains to be explored in greater detail in future.…”

“…The cusp-core problem is not only typical of galaxies but there are evidences (e.g., Newman et al 2013aNewman et al , 2013bMartizzi et al 2012;Del Popolo 2012a, 2014a) that the inner DM profiles of clusters are flatter than those predicted by the -CDM model.…”
