A high power microwave zoom antenna with metal plate lenses

Abstract: A high power microwave antenna with true zoom capability was designed and constructed with the use of metal plate lenses. Proof of concept was achieved through experiment as well as simulation. This concept comprises a horn feed antenna and two metal plate lenses. Good agreement was found between experiment and simulation. This antenna provides true zoom capability in the TEM mode with continuously variable diameter pencil beam output and approximately 10% bandwidth. Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) comp… Show more

“…The tapered-slot antennas [29] such as Vivaldi antennas are wellknown by their ultra-wide bandwidth. The Vivaldi antennas could be fabricated using aluminum material [30] to reduce the fabrication cost [31], reduce the dielectric losses, and support high power applications [32]. Tapered slot antennas can be seen in several forms, such as elliptical profiles [33] or exponential profiles [34].…”

“…So far, a large number of scholars have proposed various forms of HPM antennas [3][4][5][6]. Among them, due to its high power capacity, low profile, circular polarization, and rotating-based phase shift, array antenna [7][8][9] has become an important research direction for HPM antennas. The high-power elements, such as helixes [8,9], slots [10], and horns [11], are used for research.…”
