A high‐efficiency novel IGCC‐OTM carbon capture power plant design

Abstract: Coal power plants play an important role in supplying affordable and reliable electricity. It is necessary to develop high-efficiency and low-cost carbon capture (CC) technologies to mitigate the associated global warming. Using H2S-tolerant oxygen transport membranes (OTM) for hydrogen production and CO2 separation can significantly reduce the energy penalty of CC in integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) power plants. We carried out system-level analysis to investigate a novel IGCC-CC power plant desi… Show more

“…[125] Because the process operates at elevated temperatures, i.e., 500 -1000 °C, non-precious metal catalysts can be used. Membrane-supported CO 2 reduction can be further intensified by coupling with other high temperature processes on the permeate side, such as methane partial oxidation [126] or biomass or coal gasification [127,128] which utilize the separated oxygen, as shown in Figure 12.…”

“…Beyond COVID‐19 concerns, in our second year, we continued to publish content related to sustainability in the form of research articles on biomass processing, [ 2‐4 ] carbon capture, [ 5‐7 ] and recycling. [ 8 ] This reflects our goal to connect advances in manufacturing and processing to important societal goals, with an emphasis on presenting metrics such as carbon footprint, energy use, and life cycle impact.…”
