A Heterologous Radioimmunoassay Method for Measurement of Hamster Growth Hormone

Abstract: A heterologous radioimmunoassay (RIA) for determination of hamster growth hormone (GH) is described which involves the use of radioiodinated rat GH (NIAMDD Rat GH-I-2), antiserum to rat GH (NIAMDD Anti-Rat-GHS-3), a standard hamster anterior pituitary homogenate (SHAP), as well as purified hamster GH (AFP-1595-B). This RIA was shown to be a reliable, sensitive, and specific method for measurement of hamster GH. With this method we have determined the effects of stress and hypophysectomy on serum GH concentrati… Show more

“…SH AP was prepared from 4 adult female APs with a combined weight of 13.73 mg. Pituitaries were homogenized as described previously, and SHAP was used at 9 serial solutions between 1.72 pgand 6.71 ng/tube. SHAP reference preparation was used to facil itate comparisons with the GH values obtained in the heterologous hamster GH assay with SHAP reference preparation [6].…”
