A hard X-ray self-amplified spontaneous emission free-electron laser optimizationusing evolutionary algorithms for dedicated user applications

Abstract: Accelerator-based fourth-generation light sources are utilized in a wide range of interdisciplinary applications such as nanotechnology, materials science, biosciences, and medicine. A hard X-ray free-electron laser (FEL), as a state-of-the-art light source, was optimized using evolutionary algorithms for dedicated user applications such as X-ray Raman scattering (XRS), resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS), and X-ray emission spectroscopies (XES). Optimal parameter sets were obtained for an in-vacuum pla… Show more

“…The literature presents bio-inspired optimization methods such as PSO and EA [11][12][13][14] which are both stochastic computation techniques inspired by the flocking behavior of the birds and the basic law of survival of the fittest, respectively. Such optimization methods do not require prior knowledge about the solution, rather use a fitness function to choose among candidates that are promising to yield better solutions through a heuristic process.…”

“…While minimizing the objectives it was aimed to have a fixed magnetic elements geometry, elements position and feed circuit. In 2019, a hard X-ray freeelectron laser (FEL) was optimized using the NSGA-III algorithm (Ketenoglu, Bostanci et al 2019). Saturation power, the Pierce parameter and saturation length parameters were optimized.…”

“…Also, the The Turkish Accelerator and Radiation Laboratory in Ankara, abbreviated as the TARLA facility, is proposed as the first facility of Turkish Accelerator Center (TAC) project where such detector simulations are made in Turkey. The main target of the TARLA facility is to build up a user facility to open up recent opportunities for interdisciplinary scientific research and applications, as materials science, medicine, nanotechnology, life sciences, etc [8,9].…”
