A Hands-On Laboratory for Intelligent Control Courses

Abstract: This research focused on developing a methodology that facilitates the learning of control engineering students, specifically developing skills to design a complete control loop using fuzzy logic. The plant for this control loop is a direct current motor, one of the most common actuators used by educational and professional engineers. The research was carried out on a platform developed by a group of students. Although the learning techniques for the design and implementation of controllers are extensive, ther… Show more

“…Across the literature, there are other subtle methodologies for teaching programming and related courses, including the constructivist‐based approach [95], Short‐Term Fourier (STFT) and Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) [101], fuzzy logic [144], game‐based learning, and collaborative programming [19]. Similar to program animations, these methodologies have also reported promising results.…”

“…Parameter estimation has already been studied from a different point of view. For example, the parameters of the motors when controlling in the open and closed-loop have been proposed not only for AC electrical machines [17], but also for DC motors [18,19]. Knowing the parameters of the dynamic model helps to perform multiple control and automation tasks.…”

“…The objective of this section is to describe the experimentation platform designed for the project. This platform is an extensive model of the work presented in [44]. Both experimentation platforms share several of the devices used for the operation.…”
