A Half-Space Approach to Order Dimension

Abstract: Chitotriosidase but not angiotensin converting enzyme concentrations correlated with sarcoidosis radiological stages, and also with the degree of lung infiltrate seen by CT-scan, suggesting that the former enzyme (detected locally and sistemically) may play a role in the pathogenesis of the disease. Further studies with a greater number of patients are needed to confirm this hypothesis and to determine whether chitotriosidase may be a marker of the severity of sarcoidosis.

“…Bronchoscopy with BAL was performed in all patients for diagnostic reasons as previously reported [13-15]. Lymphocyte phenotype was analyzed by flow cytometry (Facs-Calibur, Becton Dickinson) using anti -CD3, -CD4, -CD8 and -CD1a monoclonal antibodies.…”

“…In order to investigate expression of chitotriosidase at the alveolar level [38] and its possible involvement in the pathogenesis of sarcoidosis, chitotriosidase and ACE concentrations were determined in BAL of patients with progressive and stable disease, according to the classification proposed by Hunninghake et al [39]. Chitotriosidase concentrations were compared with the results of a group of controls, and significantly higher chitotriosidase activity was demonstrated in BAL of sarcoidosis patients than in BAL of controls, particularly in patients with progressive disease [38].…”
