Various technological methods are available for industrial wastewater treatment (WWT), ranging from conventional to advanced treatment processes. It is therefore a complex exercise to select the most appropriate technology to treat the industrial wastewater in a particular situation. Many criteria can be considered in the decision-making process; therefore, multicriteria decision-making methods are especially appropriate for solving this problem. In this paper, we aim to select the most appropriate municipal WWT technology for agricultural usages. We propose a new hybrid methodology based on the best-worst method (BWM) and the behavioral technique for order of preference by similarity to the ideal solution (BTOPSIS). This new hybrid takes advantage of the benefits of both methods. The BWM incorporates consistency checks, while the BTOPSIS can model the risk behavior of the decision maker. Using the proposed methodology, we calculate the performance of seven WWT technologies using criteria categorized into sustainability dimensions (i.e., economic, social, and environmental). The results, based on different levels of decision makers' loss aversion, indicate that energy consumption and an integrated fixed-film activated sludge reactor are the most effective criterion and technology, respectively. The proposed new methodology is generic and can be employed for any multicriteria decision problems.

Reuse of wastewater is considered a major source of water retention and improvement in drought prone areas. The water recovered from renewable water resource project is used for many utilities. Here, every application is considered to be an alternative. When assessing, it is necessary to evaluate and assume that all users are safe and helpful. In this way, every alternative assessment is evaluated based on the social acceptance, environmental protection, economy, technology and operation and health risk. Then the best alternative is chosen. When recycled water is recovered and we reuse in water management plants, it can lead to multi-criteria decision making processes related to uncertain critical assessments. In general hesitant fuzzy set is represented by a number of possible values for each of element in a set. Hesitant set is used as a powerful tool to express uncertainty and hesitant information in the decision processor. The aim of this research article is to propose a new methodology of MCDM in hesitant fuzzy (HF) namely, HF-CRITIC (Hesitant Fuzzy Criteria Importance Through Inter-criteria Correlation) and HF-MAUT (Hesitant Fuzzy Multi Attribute Utility Theory) to get hesitant fuzzy information in order to select the best alternative for using reclaimed water use in India. Here, five reclaimed water plants have been identified as alternatives. These alternatives are evaluated with five criteria namely social, economic, environmental, technical/operation and health risk. After evaluation, the result shows that ground water recharge is the best alternative for reclaimed water use.

One of the most essential topics for the present and future generations is sustainability. Today, because of threats made by traditional and old manufacturing practices, sustainability has become an essential topic in manufacturing companies. Attaining a sustainable manufacturing process requires making decisions about the strategies of manufacturing. In this paper, a novel integrated model is developed to evaluate sustainable manufacturing strategies. The proposed model is based upon two multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods: WASPAS (Weighted Aggregated Sum Product ASsessment) and SECA (Simultaneous Evaluation of Criteria and Alternatives). Due to the uncertainty of evaluation process, we use interval type-2 fuzzy sets (IT2FSs). An example of evaluating sustainable manufacturing strategies is presented, and a sensitivity analysis is carried out for illustration of the developed approach and validation of it. The findings show the efficiency of the developed model, and based on the considered example, “Eco-efficiency” can be regarded as an effective strategy.
