A Grid-Inspired Mechanism for Coarse-Grained Experiment Execution

Abstract: Stochastic simulations may require many replications until their results are statistically significant. Each replication corresponds to a standalone simulation job, so that these can be computed in parallel. This paper presents a grid-inspired approach to distribute such independent jobs over a set of computing resources that host simulation services, all of which are managed by a central master service. Our method is fully integrated with alternative ways of distributed simulation in JAMES II, hides all execu… Show more

“…The development of an experimentation layer for JAMES II has been a group effort right from the beginning [68,74,132,201]. It is a complex and feature-rich part of JAMES II that cannot (and need not) be described here in full detail; the following discussion is restricted to a brief overview of the main concepts and then centers on those entities that are exploited or extended later on.…”

“…The execution as such is transparent to the experiment that generates the simulation configurations, which makes it easy to support different execution strategies for different kinds of infrastructure, as discussed in [201]. Again, the flexibility of choosing different simulation runners is realized by defining a corresponding plug-in type and plug-ins.…”

“…Em Leye et al (2008) o autor descreve uma abordagem para execução de simulações estocásticas em ambiente de computação em grade. O conceito principalé a criação de um servidor de simulação, o qualé instanciado no recurso capaz de processar e outros serviços que servem como estágios para a divisão e gerenciamento dos experimentos a serem executados.…”
