The historical cadastral archives are an important source of information to help understand our cultural heritage since they contain a trace of the activities, land uses, and buildings developed by people from different periods. However, in the era of Big Data there remain many historical documents of great value that have not been digitized or studied in depth. This is the case of the cabreves, which are precatastral documents used for centuries in several regions of Spain to document those properties that were subject to the payment of taxes to a feudal lord. Rescuing these data would enable studying the landscape structure of relatively recent dates for which there is no cadastral cartography. However, it is difficult to establish the state of conservation, degree of accessibility, content detail, and quality of the archived cabreves. In recent years, progress has been made in digitizing these sources. In Spain, the Spanish Archives Portal (PARES) harmonizes and unifies the efforts of national archives, and a significant number of documents have been archived in recent years. We use text mining techniques to analyze and map the records in which cabreves appear. Out of the 1,752 records found, a total of 1,408 cabreves have been geocoded and mapped, enabling us to establish which territories and periods can be studied using these sources. From this experience, we request that digital archives maintain a geographical perspective during archival appraisal.1. Select a representative repository for the entire area of study of the Crown of Aragon. Given the great wealth of sources and their diversity, it is necessary to focus this first study on a source that is sufficiently representative. 2. Propose a reproducible and extensible analysis methodology that enables the available information to be easily visualized. This methodology should also be applicable to other repositories or archives. 3. Determine the main characteristics of the cabreves found. It is useful to establish the conservation status, digitalization, possibility of downloading, among other features. 4. Describe the spatial and temporal distribution of the available cabreves. It is necessary that the available cabreves can be shown on maps. Importance of the cabreves as a source of geographical dataThe cabreves are public deeds linked to the emphyteusis or copyhold lease, the predominant legal formula in the Crown of Aragon -one of the most important crowns of the European Mediterranean and founded in the 12th century. Cabreves are pre-cadastral sources in which the emphyteutic copyholder declares the copyhold (dominium utile) on real estate and land, recognizing the dominium directum of the feudal Lord (Gil Olcina, 2012). Los registros precatastrales son una fuente histórica muy relevante para los estudios de historia agraria y evolución de la propiedad. No obstante, se trata generalmente de fuentes de tipo textual y sin representación gráfica, lo que supone limitaciones evidentes. En el caso de los territorios donde predominaba el contrato enfitéutico, la concurrencia de derechos sobre una misma parcela (dominios útil y directo), obligó a generar documentos de control de elevada precisión, entre los que destacan los cabreves. En este estudio analizamos un cabreve de la baronía de Sella (Alicante), datado en 1726, a partir del cual se ha realizado un estudio de caso en el valle de Tagarina, con una superficie aproximada de 1000 ha. Las relaciones de vecindad contenidas en este cabreve se han modelizado como grafos espaciales y, mediante un proceso iterativo, se ha logrado superponer la estructura parcelaria de 1726 sobre otras capas de información cartográfica (principalmente, toponimia, relieve y ortofotografía). Combinar el grafo espacial con otras fuentes geohistóricas (establiments de 1613 y el catastro de 1917) permite observar la evolución de la propiedad a través del seguimiento de familias de enfiteutas que se convirtieron en propietarios. Estas nuevas evidencias no hacen sino confirmar la calidad y las posibilidades de explotación de la información geográfica contenida en los cabreves.

Appropriate crop type mapping to monitor and control land management is very important in developing countries. It can be very useful where digital cadaster maps are not available or usage of Remote Sensing (RS) data is not utilized in the process of monitoring and inventory. The main goal of the present research is to compare and assess the importance of optical RS data in crop type classification using medium and high spatial resolution RS imagery in 2018. With this goal, Landsat 8 (L8) and Sentinel-2 (S2) data were acquired over the Tashkent Province between the crop growth period of May and October. In addition, this period is the only possible time for having cloud-free satellite images. The following four indices “Normalized Difference Vegetation Index” (NDVI), “Enhanced Vegetation Index” (EVI), and “Normalized Difference Water Index” (NDWI1 and NDWI2) were calculated using blue, red, near-infrared, shortwave infrared 1, and shortwave infrared 2 bands. Support-Vector-Machine (SVM) and Random Forest (RF) classification methods were used to generate the main crop type maps. As a result, the Overall Accuracy (OA) of all indices was above 84% and the highest OA of 92% was achieved together with EVI-NDVI and the RF method of L8 sensor data. The highest Kappa Accuracy (KA) was found with the RF method of L8 data when EVI (KA of 88%) and EVI-NDVI (KA of 87%) indices were used. A comparison of the classified crop type area with Official State Statistics (OSS) data about sown crops area demonstrated that the smallest absolute weighted average (WA) value difference (0.2 thousand ha) was obtained using EVI-NDVI with RF method and NDVI with SVM method of L8 sensor data. For S2-sensor data, the smallest absolute value difference result (0.1 thousand ha) was obtained using EVI with RF method and 0.4 thousand ha using NDVI with SVM method. Therefore, it can be concluded that the results demonstrate new opportunities in the joint use of Landsat and Sentinel data in the future to capture high temporal resolution during the vegetation growth period for crop type mapping. We believe that the joint use of S2 and L8 data enables the separation of crop types and increases the classification accuracy.
