A Goal-Driven Evaluation Method Based On Process Mining for Healthcare Processes

Abstract: As a business processes management technique, process mining (PM) has been applied in many domains in the last decade. In healthcare, where most processes are complex, variable, dynamic, and multi-disciplinary in nature, application of this technique is growing, yet challenging. Therefore, this study aims to introduce a goal-driven process evaluation method based on PM for healthcare processes. The proposed method comprises the following steps: defining goals and questions, data extraction, data preprocessing,… Show more

“…This problem and bottleneck is solved by proposing a scalable dynamic multi-agent hierarchical PBFT algorithm (SDMA-PBFT) that affects network nodes directly, from great node to the next node according to the number of nodes wrongly in the network, such as the number of consensus nodes which seriously hinder large-scale applications as multi-agent practical byzantine in permissioned block chain [34]. For example, in healthcare, where the processes are complex and multi-disciplinary in nature and have bottlenecks that are identified in two parts (pre-operative and post-operative process) resulting from the absence of certain records, staff or nature specialty, and solved by a goal-driven process evaluation method based on PM [35]. Bottlenecks may present as potential or shifting in operation mode such as rerun, low output in amount, or machine (tools) breakdowns in catastrophic events such as fire or operator carelessness that can continue manufacturing just by replacing another new machine or tool.…”

“…− The authors of [20] proposed a fully automatic method to simplify BPML (business process model and notation) process models and described a two-phase iterative algorithm to achieve this simplification, which follows a heuristic approach that makes intensive use of a pattern repository. − The study of [21] introduced a goal-driven process evaluation method based on process mining for healthcare processes. The proposed method comprises the following steps: defining goals and questions, data extraction, data preprocessing, log and pattern inspection, process mining analysis and generating answers to questions, evaluating results, and initiating proposals for process improvements.…”

“…From the map-like view of abstract process models, primitive and cluster nodes are linked by edges in different width and color representing relative significance and correlation after conflict resolution and edge filtering. Besides, fuzzy mining has taken effect especially in interactively simplifying models and investigating frequency and time duration in some practical applications (Jaisook and Premchaiswadi 2015, Premchaiswadi and Porouhan 2015, Gurgen Erdogan and Tarhan 2018. However, fuzzy mining is prone to suffer from unfitness and unsoundness due to its deliberately imprecise model.…”

It has been proved useful for bottleneck detection in practice (Jans, Van Der Werf et al 2011, Premchaiswadi and Porouhan 2015, Gurgen Erdogan and Tarhan 2018. What's more, animation movie based on the fuzzy miner provides a powerful tool in visualizing the bottlenecks, which assists to better explain and resolve possible delays for flow time reduction in the actual process.…”
