“…Especially under laser irradiation, the HSN-enhanced heat could accelerate Fenton reaction to give birth to more ROS for inducing CDT, accompanied with HSN oxidation and decomposition into tiny fragments, intratumoral permeability augmentation, tumor recession and tumor metastasis repression. Similarly, Liu et al designed and synthesized ABTS-Fe/PVP (AFP) for enhancing PTA and CDT (F. Liu, Lin, et al, 2020). The design concept of AFP is based on the following principles that (a) ABTS is a substrate for horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and can be oxidized catalytically by HRP in the presence of H 2 O 2 to yield oxABTs, and Fe 3+ can oxidize ABTS directly into oxABTS in water; (b) the resulting oxABTs have strong light absorption in the NIR region; (c) Fe 3+ can trigger Fenton reaction to produce ROS for enhancing CDT and intracellular GSH removal also contributes to ROS production (Guan et al, 2020).…”

“…As previously mentioned, the decrease of intracellular GSH level is a promising method to address the limitation of CDT. In this regard, Liu and co‐colleagues developed facile preparation approaches to obtain 2,2′‐azino‐bis (3‐ethylbenzothiazoline‐6‐sulfonic acid; ABTS)‐Fe and ABTS@MIL‐100 nanoreactors (Figure 4a) for H 2 O 2 and acid boosted PTT/CDT (F. Liu et al, 2020; F. Liu, Lin, et al, 2019). Considered as a substrate of horseradish peroxidase, ABTS was simply oxidized to oxABTS thereby featuring the function to eliminate GSH, further preserving ROS for facilitated CDT (Figure 4b,c).…”
