A genetic variant c.553G > T (rs2075291) in the apolipoprotein A5 gene is associated with altered triglycerides levels in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients with lipid lowering drug

Abstract: BackgroundElevated plasma triglycerides (TGs) are widely used as a major cardiovascular risk predictor and are thought to play an important role in the progression of coronary heart disease (CHD). It has been demonstrated that lipid lowering was associated with lower mortality in patients with CHD. The present study therefore aimed to investigate the consequences of the genetic variant c.553G > T (rs2075291) in apolipoprotein A5 gene to determination of triglycerides levels in CAD patients receiving, atorvasta… Show more

“…56 C>G was identified as a signal peptide functional mutant, which led to increased plasma TG and low HDL levels . Recently, a novel variant c.553 G>T (rs2075291) was also found to be relevant to TG levels in CAD patients who are on atorvastatin treatment …”

“…Continuous communications indicated new factors that influence interaction between inflammation and diabetes: the understanding the relations on nature and nurture [13], promoting health habits from children [14], the newest knowledge of the interaction between endothelial nitric oxide synthetase cholesteryl ester-transfer proteins and angiopoietin-like protein [15], gene expression in peripheral mononuclear cells [16], genetic variant and the altered triglycerides levels [17], and many others that opens new horizons in investigations.…”

“…Numerous genes have been linked to TG metabolism, among which LPL, which encodes the lipoprotein lipase (LPL), has been shown to be play a major role (6,7). In addition to LPL, APOA5, encoding apolipoprotein A-V (apo A-V), is an important determinant of plasma TG levels (8)(9)(10). Apo A-V is mainly expressed in the liver and is present on and is exchanged between TRLs and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (11,12).…”
