A Game Theoretical Model for Energy-Aware DTN Routing in MANETs with Nodes’ Selfishness

Abstract: Many existing studies just considered that nodes in a Mobile Ad Hoc NETwork (MANET) would fully cooperate to forward packets for one another. However, this assumption does not hold in many scenarios. The node selfishness in relay cooperation will certainly influence the overall performance of routing in MANE Ts. In this work, we investigate the energy-aware routing problem in MANETs with nodes' selfishness. We model the situation of node cooperation in energy-aware routing by using game theory. We consider the… Show more

“…Previous studies have investigated the problem of cooperation in VANETs using game theory, and have utilized a model with pairwise interactions [13][14][15][16][17][18][19]. This means that the effect of each player, or vehicle, is assumed to be limited to only one other companion player.…”

“…There are available trust management schemes to detect and filter out malicious nodes in DTNs based on the forwarding pattern and the energy level of the node, such as in Reference [78]. Besides that, faulty node detection mechanisms are also important to detect and isolate faulty nodes that might produce erroneous data [79].…”

“…The former refers to the reluctance of a node to relay messages to conserve resources, and the latter points to its willingness to forward messages to nodes in the same community. Several incentive mechanisms [11,79,86] are proposed for DTN routing approaches to motivate selfish nodes to cooperate and help in improving system-wide performance.…”
