“…However only RIA has previously been sensitive enough for IgE measurements so the ELISA developed for IgE by Hoffmann (1973) and by Weltman et al (1976) could be of considerable practical value. Ferritin and alpha-2-haptoglobin have been assayed by ELISA but with lower sensitivity than with RIA (Miedema et al, 1972;Fuccaro-Decaens et al, 1974;Boenisch, 1976;) but Bartlett et al (1976) obtained good correlations between ELISA and existing methods in their studies on factor VIII.…”

“…Intolerance to aspirin was determined by chnical history (21). The galactosidase immunosorbent test (GIST) for specific IgE antibodies against aspirin and tartrazine was performed by adaptation of the method previously reported (28). Serum total IgE (RIST, Pharmacia) and total eosinophil count (TEC) were determined as described (5,7).…”

“…Intolerance to tartrazine was determined by double-blind crossover oral chaiienge with at least 0.22 mg of tartrazine, as previsouly reported (22). After 2 days in the dark at room temperature, the reaction mixture was decanted and the discs were washed exhaustively and sequentially with HjO, 6 M urea and E~buffer (28), until the wash solution possessed no detectable ASA or tartrazine as determined from fluorescence emission at 514 nm (yexcitation = 305 nm) and absorbance at 420 nm, respectively. Aliergy skin tests were perfomried by the scratch test method with a set of common pollen, mold and animal dander inhalent allergens.…”

“…Furthermore, a modifica tion of the ELISA, utilizing galactosidase as the enzyme instead of the alkaline phospha tase, has been employed for determination of ragweed-specific IgE antibodies and good agreement with RAST has been found in a small group of patients [14].…”
