A Fuzzy‐Based Analytic Hierarchy Process for Mechanical Noise Source Identification of a Diesel Engine

Abstract: In this paper, a novel fuzzy-based analytic hierarchy process (FAHP) is proposed for identifying noise sources of diesel engine and sorting their contributions. e hierarchy tree consists of 5 levels including the component level, the frequency band level, the test point level, the operating condition level, and the overall noise level. e variational mode decomposition (VMD) is employed to decompose the overall noise into several frequency bands. e factor weights between levels are determined by the partial coh… Show more

“…of which, engine abnormal noise has accounted for the highest proportion, and is also the most difficult to control and solve. Engine abnormal noise with a wide frequency distribution comes from many different sources, such as combustion noise and mechanical noise [1][2][3][4][5][6]. combustion noise is mostly related to the unreasonable design of the combustion chamber structure, while Mechanical noise is mainly caused by poor mechanical performance of parts or improper assembly.…”

“…Yao et al [13] adopted the VMD-Robust ICA method to separate the combustion noise and the piston slap noise from measured engine noise. Zhang et al [14] proposed the VMD-fuzzy analytic hierarchy process to weight the mechanical noise sources of a diesel engine. However, the accuracy and efficiency of the VMD strongly depend on the parameters pre-set manually.…”
