A further range extension of Redfearnia (Bryophyta, Amblystegiaceae), with new data on its phylogenic position

Abstract: Redfearnia baii is reported from southern Siberia, Russia, from the Altai Mountains in the Altai Republic and from the West Sayan foothills in Khakassia. Its previously suggested enigmatic origin as a putative intrafamilial hybrid is supported. Molecular phylogenetic analysis of a wider set of pleurocarps confirmed the similarity of its nuclear ITS1 to Herzogiella (Plagiotheciaceae), while ITS2 is similar to Campylophyllum, Platyhypnum, Drepanium, Podperaea, and Tomentypnum, which form a basal grade within the… Show more
