As a decentralized distributed ledger, blockchain is endowed with immutability, traceability, anonymity, and transparency, which has got rapid development in cryptocurrency and production as a new trend. In the meantime, the occurrence of Blockchain-as-a-Service (BaaS) helps in mitigation of the complexity and difficulty in deployment and management of blockchain systems and makes it easier to concentrate on business logic implementation for developers. However, most existing BaaS systems are hosted in the environment of cloud vendors, which has also incurred vendor lock-in risk and impairs the inherent trustless characteristic of blockchain. Though present BaaS systems own a level of availability by using cloud computing or edge computing as infrastructure, the availability is limited, considering the availability of network connections and the data center itself. In this article, a novel cloud-edge collaborative BaaS paradigm is proposed. With the assistance of redundant blockchain node candidates, leader election, and edge network self-healing components, the proposed BaaS system is equipped to extend BaaS to the on-premises edge or private cloud, and realize high availability of blockchain systems in edge-autonomy and cross-data-center scenarios. Through testing a simplified system in a simulated environment in cloud servers, this proposed BaaS system has an acceptable throughput under specific transaction sending rates without much performance degradation due to containerization and data synchronization compared with the original blockchain on-premises deployment method.INDEX TERMS Blockchain, blockchain as a service, cloud computing, cloud-edge collaboration, edge computing, high availability.

Blockchain technology ensures the security of cross-organizational data sharing in the process of collaborative innovation. It drives the development of collaborative innovation in discrete manufacturing to intelligent innovation. However, collaborative innovation is a multi-role, networked, and open resource-sharing process. Therefore, it is easy to form information barriers and increase the risk of cooperation between organizations. In this paper, we firstly analyze the blockchain-based information management models in the traditional discrete manufacturing collaborative innovation process. Then, we found that in the process of industry-university-research (IUR) collaborative innovation, consensus servers maintain too many connections due to the high latency between them, which leads to lower consensus performance and efficiency. To solve this problem, we proposed the dependency analysis (DA) model, which separates and assembles transactional data and non-transactional data into different blocks by analyzing read_set and write_set of transactions. Besides, we propose the out-of-order Raft (OORaft) model to allow non-transactional blocks to be copied in parallel, which can also prioritize transactional blocks. Finally, we implement the blockchain model in the discrete manufacturing scenario based on Hyperledger Fabric. The experimental results show that our model improves the transactions per second (TPS) performance of 1.9X-3.7X and reduces transactional data committing latency by more than 40% in the target scenario.

The radio-frequency spectrum shortage, which is primarily caused by the fixed allocation policy, is one of the main bottlenecks to the deployment of existing wireless communication networks, and to the development of new ones. The dynamic spectrum access policy is foreseen as the solution to this problem, since it allows shared spectrum usage by primary licensed and secondary unlicensed networks. In order to turn this policy into reality, the secondary network must be capable of acquiring reliable, real-time information on available bands within the service area, which can be achieved by means of spectrum sensing, spectrum occupancy databases, or a combination of them. This Review presents guidelines related to the design of a framework that can be adopted to foster dynamic spectrum access policies. The framework applies special-purpose Internet of Things (IoT) devices that perform spectrum sensing, subsequently feeding a spectrum occupancy database, which in turn will be used by the secondary network to gather information on location-dependent spectrum availability. The guidelines address technological enablers capable of making the framework feasible, reliable and secure.
