A free-standing, self-healing multi-stimuli responsive gel showing cryogenic magnetic cooling

Abstract: A novel Fe(III) based gel was synthesized via self-assembly of Fe(III) and pyridine 2,6 dicarboxylic acid. The synthesized gel has remarkable mechanical strength as well as self sustainability. The metallogel...

“…MOGs have been used in the sensing of various species like, biomolecules, 407,410,411 toxic metal ions, 325,412,413 gases, 414,415 chemical explosives, [416][417][418] harmful chemicals, 283 various types of anions, 282,419 and antibiotics, [420][421][422] a summary of which is presented in Table 7. The sensing ability of MOGs is mostly studied based on the phenomena of luminescence, [423][424][425] including photoluminescence (fluorescence), [426][427][428] chemiluminescence 133,429,430 and electrochemiluminescence.…”

“…14,15 The development of LMWGs-containing metal ion binding groups may provide the additional advantage of being stimuli responsive in nature. 16 It is established that metal-assisted supramolecular assemblies are of great interest due to their applications in sensing, 17 catalysis, 18 magnetic fields, 19 optics, 20 etc. Furthermore, metal ion inclusion into LMWGs, leading to the formation of a new hybrid material with ion conducting properties, can be useful in supercapacitors, 21,22 solar cells, 23 rechargeable batteries, 24 fuel cells, 25 etc.…”

“…Metallosupramolecular gels (MSGs) are a fascinating combination of topological diversity of metal–ligand coordination, and the molecular hierarchy drives softness, adaptivity, and orderliness of supramolecular gels. Unsurprisingly, such entities have promising and widespread uses in catalysis, sensing, magnetic material production, and biological applications, among several others. The signature one-dimensional arrangement in a supramolecular gel is made of collective combinations of various noncovalent interactions among which hydrogen bonding, π–π stacking, and van der Waals interactions are most commonly found. Metal–ligand interaction via coordinate bond formation can be considered a special addition to the already available hierarchy in a supramolecular gel system. Such an interaction can lead to the primary assembly forming a one-dimensional scaffold or can cross-link the available one-dimensional assembly to promote a network structure or propagate in a two-dimensional or three-dimensional manner.…”
