A framework for pipeline infrastructure monitoring using wireless sensor networks

Abstract: Ad hoc and sensor networks is a new area of research which is rapidly growing due to the development of new technologies in inexpensive sensors. These electronic devices have increased capabilities in processing speed, memory, communication and networking [21][22]. Such sensor networks have a vast amount of applications including environmental monitoring, military, ecology, agriculture, inventory control, robotics and health care. This paper discusses the issues and challenges in the use of this new and very p… Show more

“…Generalmente, una red transmite las mediciones recogidas de diferentes sensores distribuidos de forma dispersa a través de la tubería. Las redes cableadas por ejemplo, se enfrentan a varios problemas de fiabilidad y seguridad pues están expuestas a ambientes salubres (Imad Jawhar et al, 2007).…”

“…However, the monitoring of tunnel with the long and linear structure cannot use most of these existing routing algorithms and is totally different from the other applications. Although a few researchers have presented some frameworks for the monitoring of scenarios with long and linear structure, such as oil, gas, and water pipeline monitoring [13], smart grid monitoring [14], and rail infrastructure monitoring [15], these lack corresponding routing algorithms based on performance and usage. These existing routing algorithms for linear WSNs mainly focus on improving the routing performance through optimization of transmission path.…”
