“…Furthermore, the relationship of the client with the art materials is postulated to enable the expression of negative emotions through art making, enabling a unique working relationship between the client and therapist to develop (Hilbuch, Snir, Regev, & Orkibi, 2016). Thus, the triangular relationship between client-therapist- art process and product can be experienced as primary (Hass-Cohen & Clyde Findlay, 2015). To facilitate this process the art therapist also has a concrete role in ensuring that each client has the materials needed, that the room is adequately lighted and is at comfortable temperature.…”

“…In effect, during the photovoice activity, the participants' use of the visual art of the photos and the visual memory involved in making the photos contributed to their motivation to find solutions despite the possible emotional distress experienced in rethinking and re-experiencing the tragic event [56]. Active participation in choosing solutions and in planning and design may allow citizens the opportunity to take control of their environment when in mourning for real or symbolic losses.…”

“…In addition, the ability to access trauma material without being overwhelmed adds to clients' sense of efficiency, and eliminates their traumatic memories (Elsey & Kindt, 2017). Through the addition of positive resources to a previously negatively associated autobiographical narrative, trauma memories that have been stored implicitly, can be integrated and brought into context (Gerge, 2018c;Hass-Cohen & Clyde Finlay, 2015;Hass-Cohen, Bokoch, & Findlay et al, 2018).…”

“…As can be seen the clients highlight both the relational aspects of the therapies and the art experience, and clients in music therapy appreciate the incorporated drawing/ painting experience. In the pilot study (N = 31) of Hass-Cohen et al (2018) with graduate therapy students, 67% rated the drawing activity as the strongest contributing factor adding to their capacity to access resources, when processing a potentially traumatic experience. In our examples with severely traumatized clients, they all put forward the relational components of the arts-based methods.…”
