A four-channel optoelectronic switch for use in WDM networks

Abstract

We report a 4X4 hybrid-integrated optoelectronic switch that is capable of switching digital signals with bit rates up to 9.95 Gb/s . The inherent analogue design of the switch, along with its high bandwidth, allows it to operate independently of the format and bit rate of the input signals. In addition, the modular design of the switch allows it to be connected in either an electrical-in/electrical-out or an optical-in/optical-out configuration.
