A Formal Model for Semantic Web Service Composition

Abstract: Automated composition of Web services or the process of forming new value added Web services is one of the most promising challenges in the semantic Web service research area. Semantics is one of the key elements for the automated composition of Web services because such a process requires rich machine-understandable descriptions of services that can be shared. Semantics enables Web service to describe their capabilities and processes, nevertheless there is still some work to be done. Indeed Web services descr… Show more

“…At functional level web service composition consists in retrieving some semantic links [4] noted sl i,j (Fig.1) The matching function Sim T enables, at design time, finding some types of semantic compatibilities (i.e., Exact, PlugIn, Subsume, Intersection) and incompatibilities (i.e., Disjoint) among independently defined service descriptions. In this direction the latter function can be used to define the quality of data flow in web service composition at semantic level.…”

“…It is an alternative and promising approach to development web-based application or system rapidly to combine the existing Web Services. But with the number of Web Service on the internet over the last few years increasing sharply, it is difficult and time consuming to combine web services manually [2]. Therefore, semantic web is introduced into Web Service technologies to support dynamic and automated tasks such as discovery, composition and execution.…”

“…The suggested framework uses the Causal Link Matrix (CLM) formalism [14] in order to facilitate the computation of the final service composition as a semantic graph. The nodes of this semantic graph represent semantic connections between component services.…”
