A fluid model simulation of a simplified plasma limiter based on spectral-element time-domain method

Abstract: A simplified plasma limiter prototype is proposed and the fluid model coupled with Maxwell's equations is established to describe the operating mechanism of plasma limiter. A three-dimensional (3-D) simplified sandwich structure plasma limiter model is analyzed with the spectral-element timedomain (SETD) method. The field breakdown threshold of air and argon at different frequency is predicted and compared with the experimental data and there is a good agreement between them for gas microwave breakdown dischar… Show more

“…The results showed that HPM attenuation of the plasma array is about 23 dB for the L-band. D. Z. Ding team proposed the simple structure of plasmonic-dielectric-plasma waveguide limiter, and obtained the response time of different filling gas limiter [5], [6].…”

“…[1][2][3][4] On the other hand, more works concerning the plasma generated by microwave breakdown as absorbers or limiters of HPM in microwave devices are reported, which can be seen as the rational use of the influence of plasma on the microwave propagation properties. [5][6][7][8][9] No matter what we concern about, predicting and suppressing the influence of breakdown or making use of breakdown, a realistic and accurate model is necessary to obtain the accurate key parameters of the microwave plasma and to study the propagation properties of HPM in the plasma efficiently.…”
