A flexible multi-pop infrastructure emulator for carrier-grade MANO systems

Abstract: Abstract-Developing a virtualized network service does not only involve the implementation and configuration of the network functions it is composed of but also its integration and test with management solutions that will control the service in its production environment. These integration tasks require testbeds that offer the needed network function virtualization infrastructure (NFVI), like OpenStack, introducing a lot of management and maintenance overheads. Such testbed setups become even more complicated … Show more

“…• a service development kit (SDK) [22] with VIM emulator [23] for developing and testing network services, • a service platform (SP) as management and orchestration (MANO) platform [24], • and a verification and validation (V&V) platform [25] for testing network services on the appropriate target service platform. As proposed in [22] alternative systems, such as Open Source MANO (OSM 8 ), can also be used, but this is beyond the scope of this paper.…”

“…The relation between SDK and MANO framework is further discussed in [2]. The support for different MANO platforms (SONATA and OSM) is demonstrated in [3]. The modular design of the SDK allows that support for other package formats can be easily added.…”

“…The SDK includes a service emulator which is capable of deploying container-based service chains. It is a light-weight environment, emulating arbitrary virtual multi-PoP infrastructure topologies on a developer's machine [3] as shown in Fig. 1b.…”
