A five lncRNA signature for prognosis prediction in hepatocellular carcinoma

Abstract: This study was conducted to screen prognosis-associated long-noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and a prognosis assessment model in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). lncRNA- and mRNA-sequencing data of early-stage HCC samples were downloaded from The Cancer Genome Atlas database. The samples were divided into training set and validation set. Differentially expressed lncRNAs (DELs) between poor prognosis and good prognosis samples were screened with DEseq and edgeR. Cox regression analysis was conducted to identify prognos… Show more

“…Studies have confirmed that lncRNA is a useful biomarker for the early diagnosis and prognosis of numerous diseases including cancer (32,33). For example, Sun et al (34) found five differentially expressed lncRNAs that are associated with shorter survival time in The Cancer Genome Atlas. Cai et al (35) reported that a nine lncRNA signature acts as a biomarker to predict overall survival in gastric cancer.…”

“…Abnormally expressed lncRNA NR_046683 in patients of different MM subtypes and stages indicated that it could be used as a new indicator for potential drug target and prognosis ( Dong et al, 2019 ). Although several lncRNA prognostic models have been identified in uterine corpus endometrial carcinoma ( Ouyang et al, 2019 ), hepatocellular carcinoma ( Sun et al, 2019b ), cervical cancer ( Wu et al, 2019 ), and lung adenocarcinoma ( Zhou et al, 2019 ), the clinical implication of most lncRNAs in MM remains unclear.…”

“…lncRNA based prognostic indexes have been proved to be useful to predict survival, metastasis, and recurrence of tumor patients [31][32][33]. And established by different methods, mRNA [34], lncRNA [35,36], miRNA [37], or mixed molecule type signature [38] had shown the prognostic value of HCC. For instance, using six prediction machine-learning algorithms, Yuan and colleagues established a metastasis-related signature comprised of five mRNAs and one lncRNA, which presented the well prognostic value of HCC [38].…”
