“…The results were extracted and grouped to identify the targeted problem and how to solve it. Among the selected articles, 14 studies have reported the influence of different retainer designs [44,[55][56][57][58][59][60][61][62][63][64][65][66][67], while seven studies measured the influence of different designs and materials of major connectors [66,[69][70][71][72][73][74], and the studies concerned with implant-assisted RPD were ten articles [17,43,55,[76][77][78][79][80][81][82]. The results were broad-covering with heterogeneous and disparate data, which made it not compatible to be a meta-analysis or systematic review.…”

“…The 3D oral model obtained with this technique can provide a more accurate geometrical morphology and thickness of mucosa, which is crucial for RPD simulation. The PDL was simulated by adding a 0.2 mm thick shell to the interface area between bone and tooth models, and then the volume shell is subtracted from the bone in order to define the PDL volume as previous studies proposed 41,42 . Following the design specifications for RPDs, 4 kinds of RPDs were designed by an experienced prosthodontist as well as technician together by using 3shape Dental System software (Dental system 2017, Denmark).…”

“…The use of dial gauges to evaluate the dynamic behavior of abutment teeth has been replaced by finite element analysis, an accurate method that has proven to be an extremely powerful tool when conventional methods are not viable because of structural and material complexity [30] . Nevertheless, it is known that an RPDP has a greater expected range of motion, and a finite element analysis may be adequate for basic evaluations and analyses of devices with less expected relative movement, such as tooth- or implant-supported prostheses [31] .…”
