Abstract: A survey of com borer populations in fields of sweet and fodder com showed that Chilo agamemnon (Bles.) was the main pest of com in Israel in 1969 and 1970, after which the poputation size gradually deereased. The population of an0ther pest, Sesamia cretica (Led.), also decreased, probably due to reductions in the sorghum acreage in Israel; the European com borer, Ostrinia nubilalis (Hb.), was found in very small numbers. “…The Mediterranean corn borer, Sesamia nonagrioides Lef ebvre (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is the most important pest of maize, Zea mays L. (Poaceae), in several regions of the Mediterranean (Anglade, 1972;Melamed-Madjar & Tam, 1980;Castañera, 1986;Albajes et al, 2002) and one of the main targets in this area for transgenic maize expressing Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner (Bt) toxins (Eizaguirre et al, 2006;Castañera et al, 2010). Two events of Bt maize have been grown in Spain since 1998 (Castañera et al, 2010), i.e., 176 CB (a Syngenta trademark) and MON810 (a Monsanto trademark).…”
