Cloud manufacturing yields insights of manufacturing services over cyberspace based on the integration of advanced manufacturing with cloud computing. However, the different communication standards between the different system levels are the main challenge for the integration without conflicting communication. Ethernet appears to be the best solution to support all levels for industrial manufacturing systems. Since the synchronous integration is fulfilled, the prerequisite for deciding the overall performance of systems is adaptable real‐time communication. This motivates us to study the problem of designing a new real‐time communication based on Ethernet standards to enable real‐time processing for factory networks, termed real‐time Ethernet (RTEthernet). In this paper, we introduce new architectures for master and controller stations. The objective is to have the maximum number of machines transmitting data in a data transmission window (coordinated cycle). The problem is called the maximum number of real‐time data transmission (MNRDT) problem. The MNRDT is shown to be NP‐hard. An approximation and three relevant solutions are proposed for addressing the reduction of MNRDT and the MNRDT problem. Simulation results are provided to show the performance of proposed solutions.

In this paper, we present an approach to how to store production plans directly on an RFID tag in the form of an automaton. Based on a modular manufacturing system, this enables manufacturing systems to become more flexible and changeable and, in addition, reduces the engineering effort for adaptation in an existing plant. The connection between different production modules is implemented via carriers and a Mealy machine that is stored on an RFID tag. This machine's states represent the production steps of the product on the carrier.

Abstract-Current challenges in production automation requires the involvement of new technologies like IoT, SoS and local automation clouds. The objective of this paper is to address the actual process of defining a cloud based automation system. The objective of this paper is to address one of the challenges involved in establishing and managing a cloud based automation system. Three key capabilities have been identified as required to create the expected benefits of local automation clouds; 1) capturing of plant design 2) capturing and distributing configuration and deployment information 3) coordinating information exchange . This paper addresses the capturing and distribution of configuration and deployment information. For this purpose a SOA service is proposed, the ConfigurationStore, following the principles of the Arrowhead Framework. The service is accompanied by a deployment methodology and a bootstrapping procedure. These are discussed for several types of automation technology, e.g. PLC's, sensors, actuators. A qualitative evaluation of the proposed approach is made for four use cases; Building automation, Manufacturing automation, Process automation and IoT devices. Concluding the usability for large-scale deployment and configuration of Industrial Internet of Things.
