A Fault Analysis on AC Microgrid with Distributed Generations

Abstract: -As the penetration of different types of renewable energy sources (RES) and energy storage systems (ESS) increases, the importance of stability in AC microgrid is being emphasized. Especially, RES and ESS which are operated using power electronics have difference in output characteristics according to control structures. When faults like single-line-to-ground fault or islanding operation occur, this means that a fault should be interpreted in different way. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze fault characte… Show more

“…Finally, the paper aims at verifying whether IPSs currently defined by present standards are adequate to identify unintentional islanding in the case storage units with stabilizing functions are connected to the LV distribution grid. Results are comparable with similar studies obtained according with Korean connection codes [26].…”

“…functions are connected to the LV distribution grid. Results are comparable with similar studies obtained according with Korean connection codes [26]. In the following, Section 2 recalls the requirements currently applied to DG units, in terms of both stabilizing functions and IPS characteristics, whereas Section 3 discusses the ESS stabilizing functions, considering AC interfaced storage units and ESS connected to the DC side of the generating unit converter.…”

“…As the supply of renewable energy is expanding globally, the amount of distributed power sources (e.g., solar photovoltaic (PV) and wind power) connected to the power grid is also rapidly increasing [1]. In addition, a number of studies related to distributed power connections have been conducted [2][3][4][5][6][7]. The inclusion of distributed power sources such as PV and wind power [8][9][10] could degrade power quality due to fluctuations of their output power.…”
